Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto County to provide access to a pool for Willis ISD’s swim program; private donors will fund the heater and the district agreed to a modest monthly utility payment not to exceed $6,000 per year.
The Willis ISD Board of Trustees on Aug. 20 approved a memorandum of understanding with the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto County to provide pool access for the district’s swim program and to cover ongoing utility costs while private donors purchase and install a heater for the facility.
Superintendent staff introduced first-year head coach Amy Mills and described community donor support to pay for a pool heater at the Girl Scouts’ facility so the district’s swim teams have a year-round practice site. District staff requested approval to pay a utility stipend of $500 per month, not to exceed $6,000 per year, to help cover gas costs after the heater is installed; the stipend is intended to cover operational heating costs rather than capital purchase of the heater.
A motion to approve an MOU with the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto County passed unanimously (7–0). Board members praised the collaborative effort among donors, district staff and community partners.
The district said donors will cover the heater purchase and associated capital cost; the board’s action authorizes the monthly stipend once the arrangement is in place. No additional long-term district capital commitment was approved at the meeting.
