Resident seeks city help to site and fund Sammy Davis Jr. statue in Las Vegas

Catherine Duncan, a Las Vegas resident and owner of the Harrison House, told the redevelopment agency on Aug. 20 she is seeking city guidance and help to bring a 15-foot sculpture of entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. to the city and estimated the project would require “a little over half a million dollars” in fundraising.
Duncan said the Harrison House property could receive the statue but she believes the sculpture “needs to go in a more prominent location,” and she identified the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza as one possible site. “We have an opportunity to receive a 15 foot sculpture of the infamous Sammy Davis Junior in Las Vegas, and we need your help,” Duncan said. “We need to raise a little over half a million dollars to make this happen.”
The mayor noted the agency cannot enter into discussion or act on matters during the public comment portion of the agenda but recommended Duncan begin by consulting the councilmember who represents Ward 5. No action or staff direction was recorded in the meeting minutes.
