AHJ Library reports growth in summer reading; offers tutoring and outreach

Abigail Barna, deputy director of the AHJ Library System, told the Hampton County Council on Aug. 18 that the system’s summer reading and outreach programs saw higher participation this year.
“We have the Hampton County Library and Estill Public Library in Hampton. And this summer, we had across our system over 300 participants in our summer reading program,” Barna said, adding some programs drew “upwards of 50 patrons in attendance per program.”
Barna said the library is increasing its community outreach and that families can find program listings and resources at ahjlibrary.org. She highlighted that the library provides free academic help via tutor.com and other resources intended to support students returning to school.
Barna also thanked the council for past support and said the libraries will continue to expand programming throughout the school year. Council members praised branch staff and named Hampton branch manager Chrissy Cook during the public-comments segment.
