Council approves final‑plat change allowing removable black vinyl chain‑link fence along Ridenbaugh Canal at South Ridge

Meridian — The City Council on Aug. 12 approved a final‑plat modification for the South Ridge subdivision that allows a removable black vinyl‑coated chain‑link fence along the Ridenbaugh Canal instead of the wrought‑iron style fencing the council previously required.

Bill (planning staff) told the council that the irrigation district required a removable fence system so canal maintenance could be performed without dismantling permanent ornamental fencing. The applicant’s contractor installed a black vinyl‑coated chain‑link fence of the removable type used in several nearby locations and asked the council to accept that material as the condition of approval for the final plat.

Jason Densmer, principal and civil engineer with The Land Group, said the contractor found the chain‑link product could be sleeved and removed in sections to allow irrigation‑district access and that traditional wrought‑iron panels would not be removable in the same way.

After a brief discussion, the council voted to revise the relevant condition and allow the black vinyl‑coated chain‑link fencing already installed along the canal. Councilman Schaer moved to approve the modified final plat; the motion passed with an affirmative voice vote.

The change clears a remaining condition for final signature and allows the applicant to record the plat and proceed with the next development steps.
