Victoria ISD board approves 2025–26 employee compensation plan

The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees on Aug. 7 approved the district's 2025–26 employee compensation plan, voting 6-0 to adopt the plan as presented by district administration.
The vote implements the higher pay option the board selected at a prior meeting and incorporates that decision into the district's employee compensation manual for 2025–26. Michelle Yates, who presented budget and rate materials elsewhere on the agenda, and district staff answered trustees' questions about how the manual reflects the board's earlier direction.
The manual includes a clarified approach to career and technical education pay credit: CTE instructors receive one-for-one experience credit for the first 10 years and one-for-two years thereafter when their time is used on the teacher salary schedule, the district said. Trustees asked for that clarification because some CTE positions are filled by employees who are not certified classroom teachers but whose experience should factor into pay.
Board members expressed support for the increase and for administration's work to make the pay changes possible. The motion to approve was made by Mr. Jones and seconded by Ms. Nelson; the board indicated unanimous approval by raised hands.
The approval came while the district also reviewed the broader budget that accompanies the compensation plan; trustees were told the district sought to prioritize salary increases while maintaining a balanced budget for 2025–26.
