The Chandler Unified School District governing board recognized Basha High School’s Basha Bear Network Aug. 6 after the team won gold in video news production at the 2025 SkillsUSA National Championships in Atlanta, district staff said.
Teacher Glenda Skalitski told the board the team of four — two anchors, a technical director and a floor director — competed against more than two dozen other teams nationwide to take the top prize. Skalitski said it was the first time an Arizona team earned gold in the category. Board presenters also said the same student group received four student Emmy nominations.
Students who spoke at the meeting described the competition format, the time constraints on producing packages and thanked staff, parents and Basha High administrators for travel support. One student said the experience simulated being live on the air and that the trip provided valuable career and technical education experience. The board invited the students and their teacher to pose for photos and congratulated them on the accomplishment.
District staff also noted other CTE student achievements across the district and encouraged families to attend the district college fair in September.
