Sherry Broomejo, representing the Monrovia Area Partnership, told the City Council that registration is open for the 2025 youth and adult leadership academies, which will begin in the fall.
The youth leadership academy serves students in grades 8 through 12 and focuses on public speaking, resume building, financial literacy, volunteerism and team building; the program is free and includes snacks. The adult academy, open to residents 18 and older, runs concurrently on Thursday evenings and covers city operations, leadership training and community engagement. Broomejo said classes are held at city facilities and that staff will promote registration online, at City Hall and through schools.
Council members praised the programs and asked staff to include the announcement in the city's Friday update. No funding decisions were made at the Aug. 5 meeting; the item was presented as a staff update and outreach notice.
