Neighbors raise safety and unauthorized events concerns at 2910 Lakeway Boulevard hangar during citizens’ participation

During the meeting’s citizens’ participation period, Lynn Fisher and her husband David Conlow, who live at 3102 Lakeway Boulevard, told the Zoning and Planning Commission about safety and permitting concerns involving a hangar at 2910 Lakeway Boulevard.

Fisher said the hangar is on property considered part of Airpark South and that, while usual aviation activity has not been a problem, the hangar has recently been used for two events promoted for a private lending business. Fisher said the first event included a band and the second, in July, drew what she estimated to be at least 25 cars parked outside the hangar. She said signage advertised valet parking at the City of Lakeway Swim Center parking lot. Fisher told the commission these events occurred without permits and that the gate at 2910 Lakeway Boulevard had repeatedly been left open, allowing pass-through access to Lakeway Boulevard until a cease-and-desist order was issued by Building and Development.

Fisher asked commissioners to accept a written letter she had sent to City Council and provided copies to the city secretary at the meeting. Chairwoman Vance acknowledged receipt and instructed staff to take the materials. The speakers said their concerns were primarily safety-related; Fisher noted that a 2019 crash with one fatality occurred less than 500 feet from their property.

Because the matter was not on the meeting agenda, the commission did not take action on the concerns during this session. Fisher requested that staff have the submitted documents recorded for city consideration.
