Kent County committee approves Area Agency on Aging FY2026 annual plan

The plan, presented to the committee as a required regional submission, informs the state about services for older adults across nine counties in West Michigan (Region 8). The Administrator said the state's Commission on Services to the Aging requires each county board to review and approve the agency's annual plan.
The Administrator summarized the request as a routine approval: "The action requested is to approve the area agency on aging annual plan, for 2026. Reminder that [the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan] serves 9 counties in West Michigan, Region 8, and each year each of the counties is requested to approve the annual plan," the Administrator said.
Commissioner LeGrand characterized the document as high-level. "It looks sort of, when I read through it, very sort of high level, I mean there's not a lot of detail on it, am I right?" LeGrand asked. The Administrator and other commissioners framed the plan as a bridge between the regional agency and the state for oversight and reporting.
Commissioner Hennessy said the area agency has been aligning its work with a strategic plan and recent county-level senior-millage revisions. Hennessy read the county's revised mission statement for senior-millage-funded work: "to provide person centered care and resources for Kent County older adults, promoting independence and quality of life through a network of community partners." Hennessy said that revision will factor into next year's budget work.
A motion to approve the annual implementation plan was moved by Commissioner LeGrand and supported by Commissioner Hennessy. The committee adopted the motion by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded.
The committee treated the submission as a required regional certification to the state agency rather than a county-specific program change. No amendments or follow-up tasks were recorded at the meeting.
