Scotland County proclaims August child support awareness month; office announces amnesty and outreach

The Scotland County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 4 proclaimed August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month and heard initiatives from county child support staff aimed at outreach and collections.
Chastity Laws, program administrator for child support, introduced Sherry Jackson, the Scotland County child support supervisor, who told commissioners the county’s child support office is among the state’s top performers. Jackson said the office is exceeding its goals and that, as of the statement given at the meeting, there were more than 3,055 support orders in place for Scotland County children.
Jackson said the child support office will implement several initiatives during August: for the month of Aug. 1–31, arrest orders issued by Scotland County will be modified to $500 per child support case regardless of the amount on the order; the office will publish daily Q&A posts on its Facebook page; it will host a snack drive for the nonprofit Project Inasmuch; and staff will appear on WEWO radio Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. to discuss child support services.
“During that month, all orders for arrest issued by Scotland County will be modified to $500 per child support case from August 1 until 08/31/2025, regardless of the amount listed on the order for support,” Jackson said.
The board moved and approved the proclamation by voice vote.
Jackson and Laws also recognized county employees who support the child support office, and commissioners said they would sign the proclamation the following day.
