Oxnard speakers urge $1 million emergency fund, public facilities and ACLU suit after ICE raids

Dozens of residents, nonprofit leaders and student organizers urged the Oxnard City Council on July 29 to provide immediate funding and services after federal immigration enforcement actions in Ventura County, asking the city to allocate $1,000,000 in emergency funds, make city facilities available for legal clinics and to join ongoing litigation by the ACLU.

Speakers said the raids on June 10 and July 10 at agricultural sites and detention centers produced trauma, family separation and urgent material needs. “There is a desperate need for assistance currently in our community,” said Sarah (no last name provided), who described fear at swap meets and at Oxnard College. Future Leaders of America representative Gloria Soto asked the council to “allocate at least $1,000,000 in emergency funds for housing, food, legal services, and family reunification.”
