Caroline County proclaims October domestic violence awareness month

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 14 adopted a resolution declaring October Domestic Violence Awareness Month and invited representatives of local victim services to be recognized at the meeting.

The board’s reading of the resolution cites state and national hotline and service statistics for 2024 and the first half of 2025, and calls for local agencies and community partners to increase public awareness and support survivors. The resolution as read lists call and service counts, estimates of economic cost, and statements about the effects of domestic violence on adults and children. The formal document, “A resolution declaring October as domestic violence awareness month in Caroline County, Virginia,” was signed and entered into the record at the meeting.

Chair Nancy L. Long read the resolution to the board and members of the public in attendance. After the reading, a representative from PowerHouse (the local victim services provider present at the meeting) spoke at the podium to thank the board. “PowerHouse’s services are free and confidential, and we are grateful for our community partners who help support this mission,” the organization’s representative said.

The board paused for photographs with the local agencies present, including representatives from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, and the county’s victim-witness program. No vote tally was recorded on the floor because the resolution was presented and entered into the record as read; the resolution text indicates it was adopted and signed by the chair and county administrator.
