The Sahuarita Town Council on Sept. 8 approved a sponsorship and service agreement with El Tour de Tucson and passed its consent agenda. The council also resolved a 3–3 tie for the council’s legislative ambassador appointment by flipping a coin; Diane Priolo won the toss and will serve in the role for the upcoming session.
Council members voted to adopt the El Tour de Tucson sponsorship and services agreement, which formalizes the town’s ongoing support for the event and codifies reimbursements for town services related to the ride. The council convened a recorded roll call and voted on the consent agenda earlier in the meeting; the clerk recorded that the motion carried.
The El Tour de Tucson agreement includes up to $50,000 in reimbursable expenditures for Sahuarita Police Department costs tied to traffic and public-safety support, and in-kind support from Parks & Recreation and Public Works. For Parks & Recreation and Public Works the town will provide up to $5,000 in staff time or in-kind services; the contract also seeks to attribute 8% of El Tour’s charitable donations to Sahuarita to support local nonprofit partners.
After nominations produced a 3–3 split between Councilmember Debbie Morales and Councilmember Diane Priolo for the council’s legislative ambassador role, the council used an agreed coin flip to break the tie. The coin flip produced tails, and Priolo was selected to serve as legislative ambassador for the upcoming session. The council discussed the option of deferring the appointment to a future meeting but the two nominees agreed to the coin-flip method.
No roll-call vote counts for the El Tour motion or the consent agenda were read into the record; minutes show the motions carried and the agreements will be executed per staff direction. The appointment procedure and the El Tour agreement will be reflected in the adopted minutes and contract files.
The council’s next regular meeting was announced for Oct. 13, 2025.
