The Alamance County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a proclamation recognizing Sept. 15–Oct. 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Alamance County.
The proclamation recited the national observance’s history, noting that the commemoration began as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968, was expanded to a 30‑day period in 1988 and was enacted into law on Aug. 17, 1988. The text included that Sept. 15 marks independence anniversaries for several Latin American countries and cited the county population statistic that approximately 14.4% of Alamance County residents are of Hispanic origin.
Commissioner Chris Carter read the proclamation during the meeting; the board then moved and seconded adoption and approved it by voice vote.
