Council approves purchase of 12 replacement drinking fountains for parks

The council approved a staff recommendation Sept. 16 to purchase 12 replacement drinking fountains from Most Dependable Fountains (Arlington, Tenn.) for $53,266.83 for distribution to city parks and some landscape assessment districts.
Public Works staff presented a condition survey that categorized fountains as “good,” “fair,” “poor” or “removed.” Staff said 10 fountains had been removed and several remaining units were in poor cosmetic or functional condition. The requested purchase covers replacement of the dozen highest‑priority units, including dog bowls at Vineyard Park and Centennial Park and several fountains for athletic complexes and neighborhood parks.
Council members asked about a lifecycle replacement plan for park amenities and confirmed staff’s plan to pursue future funding to replace remaining poor or removed fountains over several fiscal years. The purchase motion passed 5‑0.
