Council opens public hearings for Draft and Vessel event center and Plant Joy restaurant; no public opposition

The Wauwatosa common council opened public hearings on conditional use permit applications for two separate properties and then closed the hearings after no members of the public spoke in favor or opposition.
City staff member Ms. Zutty introduced the applications. The first application, from Draft and Vessel (applicant Nathaniel Devour), seeks approval to convert the former Swan Interiors building at 7487 Harwood Avenue into an event center with an outdoor patio shared with the adjacent Draft and Vessel property. Staff described the project as a two‑phase plan: Phase 1 would demolish a fire‑damaged residence and construct an outdoor deck/patio; Phase 2 would renovate and adaptively reuse the existing chapel and corner addition as a boutique event center to host weddings and small private events. Staff said proposed hours for the patio and event facility would match Draft and Vessel’s current hours (Monday–Thursday 3 p.m.–11 p.m., Friday–Saturday noon–midnight, Sunday 1 p.m.–8 p.m.). Ms. Zutty said the item will go to the Plan Commission on Sept. 8 for recommendation and back to the common council on Sept. 30 for final action.
The second hearing covered a conditional use permit for 6108 W. Bluemound Road to allow an eating and drinking establishment proposed by Amberly Childs of Plant Joy LLC. Ms. Zutty said the location is the former Daddy’s on Bluemound storefront. The proposal includes two outdoor tables for up to eight people and proposed operating hours of Tuesday–Sunday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Childs told the council she operates a meal‑prep business and has been working from a shared commercial kitchen for more than five years; she said the applicant hopes to relocate and bring activity back to a corner that has been vacant for more than six months.
No in‑person or Zoom participants asked questions or spoke in favor or opposition to either application, and staff reported there were no electronic comments. Both matters will be reviewed by the Plan Commission on Sept. 8 and returned to the council for consideration on Sept. 30.
