He said he had followed the Town of Amherst’s petition process and learned that, after landowner signatures and filing, the town’s review process could take months and the earliest construction would be next summer — a timeline he called inadequate for current safety risks.
Vitovich urged the board to advocate with town officials and the PTA to accelerate the work, citing student use of the corridor and evening athletic events: “All it takes is one driver who is looking at his phone… somebody's gonna be hurt or killed,” he said. Another commenter echoed concern about patchy sidewalks and pedestrian safety.
The board acknowledged the comment and indicated staff and board members would follow up with town officials and the constituent who raised the concern.
