Fremont County accepts clerk’s monthly report, approves consent items; administrator outlines services, jobs and medication-disposal program

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. — At its Aug. 12 meeting the Fremont County Board of County Commissioners approved routine consent items, accepted the county clerk’s monthly report for June and heard administrative updates from County Administrator Tony Carocci.
Consent and clerk’s report The board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, biweekly bills, ratification of the chairman’s signature on airport documents and contracts for road and tunnel stabilization projects (including a County Road 12 stabilization). The motion to approve the consent agenda passed on a roll call (recorded ayes from the three commissioners present). The commissioners then moved to accept the county clerk’s monthly report for June; the motion passed on roll call.
County clerk figures and election preparation During the clerk’s report the county clerk said total motor vehicle fees, sales tax and recording fees collected for June were $1,776,178.84 and that the county’s portion for disbursement was on the order of $1.0 million; the office reported year-to-date collections were up roughly $251,243.94 compared with the prior year. The clerk also outlined election preparations, including five secured drop boxes around the county (four are drive-through) and relocation of some drop boxes to drive-through locations.
Administrative and public-health updates County Administrator Tony Carocci reported a small list of open county job postings in the sheriff’s office and reminded the public that the assessor’s office and the public-health vital records office are temporarily operating from the Garden Park Public Health Building with limited hours. He said the chip-seal prep for parking areas at the Pathfinder site will begin the following Monday to reduce mud and improve access for events.
Public-health medication disposal program Carocci and commissioners described a new safe medication disposal program being rolled out by the Fremont County Department of Public Health; the program uses Deterra medication-disposal pouches and is funded with opioid settlement dollars. Carocci said pouches and resource cards are being mailed to more than 10,000 households (targeting older residents and rural areas) and that multiple partner locations, local pharmacies and emergency-service facilities will keep pouches available for residents who did not receive a mailing.
The board said more details about locations and program materials are posted on the county public-health website and that residents may request additional pouches at specified local sites.
