Residents raise safety concerns over truck traffic on Old Blocks Road; village staff to pursue signage and enforcement

Residents told trustees they have observed tractor-trailers using Old Blocks Road, which carries a posted 6-ton weight limit, and said trucks appear to be using the street to bypass nearby roundabouts and signals.

One resident described repeated truck traffic during morning hours and said vehicles often speed through the narrow, residential stretch. The resident asked whether the village could restrict through-truck traffic or add signage.

A village staff member and a board member responded that extra signage and coordination with the highway department and enforcement could address the problem. A staff member said the highway department and the board are typically receptive to additional signage and that enforcement can be explored; staff said they would put the matter 'on my radar' and work to identify next steps.

Trustees and staff cited nearby changes to traffic patterns — including a new roundabout on Arlington — as a possible reason trucks are rerouting onto Old Blocks Road. No formal ordinance or enforcement action was taken at the meeting; staff was directed informally to research options and return with recommendations.
