Hunterdon Central board begins 4–5 year strategic-planning process with NJSBA

The Hunterdon Central Regional High School Board of Education on Aug. 18 approved a contract with the New Jersey School Boards Association to lead a district strategic-planning process that the district says will guide annual goals for the next 3–5 years.
The plan will include three evening community meetings, visioning exercises and small-group work intended to produce 3–5 broad district goal areas and, later, specific strategies and action plans, NJSBA presenter Mary Ann Friedman told the board.
Friedman, senior field service representative at the New Jersey School Boards Association, described the process as a method to create “an organizational-wide vision and mission that directs and motivates stakeholder groups,” and said the work will be flexible and iterative so the district can adjust action plans as needed.
Superintendent Jessica Candelosi Haid told the board that the district’s previous strategic plan expired in 2022 and that the new plan will build on work in wellness, learning partnerships and service. She asked the board to approve the NJSBA contract and said revised metrics for the district goals will be prepared for the September board meeting.
Board members and NJSBA staff described the public-facing portion of the process: the first meeting will collect strengths and challenges, the second will focus on visioning and initiatives, and the third will draft goal statements and objectives. Friedman said groups will report common themes at each meeting and that student voice will be actively solicited.
The board approved the organizational consent items that included the NJSBA contract. The superintendent and board agreed to continue refining the measures of success tied to each goal and present revised metrics in September.
Next steps: the district will post dates for the three community meetings, invite staff, students, parents and community partners to participate, and return the refined goal metrics to the board at the September meeting.
