During public comment at the Sept. 9 Mound City Council meeting, resident Johan (last name not specified) asked the council to act after local broadband and fiber companies installed equipment and conduit in front yards, in some cases damaging landscaping. He said he has repeatedly tried to contact Midco and other providers without an adequate response and asked the city to intervene.
"They're putting their cable in the same location...they're not sharing like the Internet is being shared in different cable companies," the resident said, and added that his block and front-yard plantings have been repeatedly disrupted. He reported delays in contractor responses and concern that more companies coming to the town will cause repeated digs in residents’ yards.
City staff and council members said public works has working relationships with several providers and will contact contractors on the resident's behalf. Council member Castellano (addressing the resident) said staff would try to coordinate providers and look for less disruptive routes, including use of existing easements or back-lot installations where feasible.
Ending: Staff agreed to contact Midco and other providers and try to coordinate placements to reduce repeated disruptions; staff will follow up with the resident and update the council.
