The North Bend City Council on Sept. 2 authorized the mayor to execute an amendment to the city’s interlocal agreement with SCORE (the regional jail partner) to accept 2026 rate increases and maintain SCORE as a booking alternative.
Interim Police leadership told the council SCORE had proposed increases for 2026 that staff described as roughly 5 percent on bed rates. The presentation noted SCORE’s booking fee rising from $80 to $95, non‑guaranteed bed rates increasing from $213 to $223.83, and small increases to mental‑health and acute‑medical bed rates. SCORE had also proposed a transportation security fee (listed by staff as $94 per hour) and a virtual‑court fee of $75.
Council members characterized SCORE as a lower‑cost option than some alternatives and thanked police staff for negotiating and monitoring jail options. Council member Susan Torgerson said the rates compared favorably with other jails; Christina Rustic, who moved the amendment, praised staff work. The council approved the amendment unanimously, 6–0.
According to staff, SCORE is used as a secondary booking facility after Issaquah and before King County for certain detainees and for individuals needing enhanced medical or behavioral health attention. The amendment accepted the published 2026 rates and authorized the mayor to sign an amendment in a form acceptable to the city attorney. The action passed by a unanimous voice vote.
