Alderman pushes for action on 2045 comprehensive plan; committee work 'sits idle,' she says

Alderman Wilson on Sept. 8 urged the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to move forward with the city’s 2045 comprehensive plan, saying the document — completed and posted in August 2024 — has not yet been placed on the planning commission or board agendas for formal review.

Wilson told the board that the Community Plan Development Committee (CPDC), composed of citizens, professionals and an alderman liaison, worked for nearly two years to update the city’s 2011 plan and submitted the 2045 plan in August 2024. “That plan was completed and submitted in August 2024...Yet here we are in September 2025, and the plan has still not been brought forward for full review by the planning commission or the BOEM,” Wilson said.

Wilson said citizens who volunteered thousands of hours and community members who expect transparency are frustrated that the plan “continues to sit idle” and asked the board for an update and a timeline for when the plan would appear before the planning commission and the board. “Without it, we we risk piecemeal decisions that fail to reflect any clear direction,” she added.
