Votes at a glance: Twinsburg board approves personnel, student placements, services and emergency repairs; ESC agreement passes with one abstention

The Twinsburg Board of Education on Aug. 6 approved a slate of personnel recommendations, student-placement contracts, service agreements and emergency repair proposals described in the board packet. Most measures were approved unanimously or by majority vote.

Personnel and contracts - The board accepted certified/licensed personnel, classified personnel, supplemental contracts and activity contracts as presented; the motions were moved and seconded and passed 5-0. - The board approved multiple individual special-education placements and related services for the 2025-26 school year, as presented in the packet: an extended-school-year service agreement (cost not to exceed $1,200, general fund), tuition for one student at Gerson School with Applewood Centers, Inc. (tuition not to exceed $49,388, general fund), tuition for one student at Pearson School with Applewood Centers, Inc. (tuition not to exceed $37,041, general fund), a settlement and waiver for a student to attend Monarch School (tuition for 2025-26 $98,026, general fund), and a school-health services agreement with Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Akron to provide nursing services (total not to exceed $370,829.62, general fund). The board approved the technology equipment deletions and the school routes for 2025-26 and authorized the transportation supervisor to make route adjustments during the year.

Educational Service Center agreement - The board approved an interdistrict service-area agreement with the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio (ESC) for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026, to provide consultant/network manager, tech support specialist, tech resource assistant and security liaison services; the motion passed with a roll-call that recorded Mrs. Hamilton yes, Mrs. Travis abstain, Mrs. Davis yes and Mrs. Crawford yes.

Emergency repairs and facilities - The board approved a series of emergency permanent-improvement proposals for asphalt and catch-basin repairs at district schools with the vendors and amounts listed in the board materials (examples in packet: Perrin Asphalt and Concrete — $12,000 and $16,500 for two emergency asphalt repairs; Mid Ohio Asphalt and Concrete — $19,560 and $6,225 for catch-basin repairs; additional proposals for Twinsburg High School and other sites as listed). Each of these contracts was described as a permanent-improvement expenditure and was approved by the board.

Motions were recorded as moved and seconded; roll-call votes or unanimous voice votes were used where indicated on the agenda. Several motions were described as pending satisfactory Ohio Revised Code (ORC) background checks for personnel items.
