Staff requested the Shelbyville mayor and city council refer an annexation petition for a 0.52-acre triangular parcel at 131 Hartshackle Road to the planning commission for study.
Tom (staff) said the parcel was created when the property owner split a larger tract and that Dr. Wilhelm seeks to square the corner by annexing the 0.52-acre piece now in the county. Tom identified the landowners as Coy and Jane Landers (with Warren Landers signing for the family) and said the intended transfer would move the lot to the buyer’s ownership pending annexation and planning review. He said a concurrent rezoning application would request Commercial-2 zoning to match adjacent parcels; the parcel is currently zoned agricultural in the county.
Tom asked the council to refer the matter to the planning commission for further study; he characterized the request as an administrative referral rather than an ordinance adoption at the study session and said the planning commission would review both annexation and rezoning before the council sees a formal ordinance.
No formal council vote was recorded at the study session; Tom asked the council to place the item on the business agenda next week for referral.
Quote: “All we're asking of this council is to refer this matter to the planning commission for further study,” Tom said.
