Covington proclaims September 2025 National Emergency Management Awareness Month

The Covington City Council on Aug. 12 adopted a proclamation naming September 2025 as National Emergency Management Awareness Month in the city and encouraged residents to increase emergency preparedness.
Mayor Wagner introduced the proclamation and asked Andy, the city’s emergency manager, to join the dais to accept it. The proclamation notes that emergencies and disasters can occur unexpectedly and that local emergency managers, community leaders and government agencies devote time to preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation planning to protect life and property.
During remarks at the meeting, Andy said: "Preparedness as a community effort. So it takes all of us to do it." The council highlighted recent local activities such as a wildfire-prevention event at Lake Wilderness Lodge and the city’s partnerships with regional fire authorities.
The proclamation encourages citizens to seek information on emergency preparedness and recognizes the role of emergency managers and responders in keeping communities safe. The council did not take further legislative action on the proclamation beyond the presentation and public recognition.
