School committee approves making two after‑school site coordinator roles full time

The Medford School Committee approved a motion to convert two part‑time after‑school site coordinator positions to full‑time, a change the district said will add $47,504 in annual cost to the after‑school revolving account.

Dr. Gallucci presented the proposal, saying the district has removed 53 students from the after‑school wait list since last school year and is expanding program tracks, including an earlier 4 p.m. pickup that creates additional 6 p.m. slots. He said increasing two site coordinators to full‑time would help with logistics, staffing and programming and align with the consultant Basic's model.

Dr. Gallucci described the proposed full‑time schedule as 220 days (including the 180 school days plus planned vacation‑week and summer programming and professional development) at $36.93 per hour. He said the two positions would partner across all four schools rather than be assigned to a single building, and that the after‑school program's revolving account can accommodate the increase.

Committee members asked whether the positions would be new roles or promotions for existing staff; Dr. Gallucci said the plan is to post the openings internally so existing site coordinators could apply. Members also asked about City Year, and Dr. Gallucci said the district will have about 15 core City Year members this year (up from roughly 11 previously) at the same overall price as last year and that a portion of City Year costs remain split between budget lines.

The motion, made by Member Lapade and seconded by Member Brantley, passed 6–0 with one member absent. Committee members said the change is intended to expand capacity and provide operational support to the district's after‑school director.
