Union leader tells Clay County board budget cuts and involuntary transfers have eroded teacher morale

She said teachers were concerned about larger class sizes, unfilled positions and role changes without adequate communication.
Board members acknowledged the remarks. One board member thanked colleagues for attending a teacher forum and described the forum as the first time all five board members had appeared together to hear teachers' concerns. A board member asked district staff to bring the school‑counseling policy to the next workshop for review and possible advertisement for public comment.
No formal board action was taken; speakers called for the district and board to move from complaint to solution, identifying pay and working conditions as areas that affect retention.
