Board approves new contract with teachers union; vote 7–0 with one abstention

The Abington Heights School District board approved a new professional contract between the district and the Abington Heights Education Association on June 18. The motion passed with seven board members voting yes and one abstention (Mister Abdella), recorded as 7 yes, 1 abstain.

Superintendent Doctor Schaefer publicly thanked AHEA leadership and specifically named Jason Burke, the AHEA president, for collaborative negotiations. Schaefer described the agreement as “fair and a reasonable reflection of how much our board values our teachers.” Board president Mr. Acker and other members praised administration and union leaders for early and cooperative bargaining.

The contract vote followed discussion praising the negotiations as constructive and noted by at least one board member as an example of productive labor-management collaboration.
