Eric Beck, executive director of Esker Park Zoo Botanic Garden, told the Evansville Board of Parks Commissioners on July 2 that the zoo will host Wild Summer Lights, a Chinese lantern festival produced by Tianu Arts and Culture.
Beck said the event will run six weeks from Aug. 14 through Oct. 5, operating Thursday through Sunday each week. Liberty Federal Credit Union has agreed to be the title sponsor. Beck said, “There is a discount for zoo members, but it is a ticketed event after hours, so we will have a separate price for coming in to the park.” He added the displays will be visible during daytime zoo visits but “really kinda glow and become spectacular at night.”
The board discussion noted the timing places the event just before Nut Club week. No formal action or vote was recorded on the announcement; the item was presented as an informational update from zoo staff.
