The presentation, led by Senior Vice Chancellor Satasha Green Stevens and executive directors Shannon Bryant (workforce and economic development) and Valerie D’Aquar (HealthForce Minnesota), described partnerships with the governor’s workforce development board, the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), the Minnesota Association of Workforce Boards and regional employers as central to the Drive for 5 strategy the state uses to prioritize sectors with high job openings.
Trustees were told Minnesota State already trains a large share of the state’s professionals in priority areas — the presenters said the system supplies roughly nine in 10 workers for some public safety and health occupations and trains roughly 45% of the state’s teachers — and that the system is using a mix of legislation, grants and employer funding to scale capacity.
