Anthony Mahady, a teacher and head boys golf coach at Rosemount High School, announced the Rosemount boys golf team finished third at the Minnesota State High School golf tournament and earned the team academic all-state award. Ryan Donnella, Eastview High School boys volleyball coach, introduced his team after the program finished third in the first Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) sanctioned boys volleyball state tournament. Eagan High School principal Polly Rykowski and Rosemount coaches acknowledged athletes who placed in state track and field events, including Kovari Flowers (second in 300-meter hurdles) and Abby Esler (third in long jump).
The recognitions were followed by a district "Triple A" presentation summarizing participation and achievements at the comprehensive high schools. Presenters said: - 3,278 high school students took at least one Advanced Placement course this school year, about 36.3 percent of grades 9'12, with a 26 percent increase in AP enrollment from the prior year (Polly Rykowski). - Over 5,780 students took at least one career and technical education course (Rykowski). - District teams and individuals achieved numerous state-level honors across music, speech and debate, DECA, athletics and other competitive activities; District 196 was represented in 33 of 37 MSHSL state tournament offerings this past year (Matt Percival and Bill Blatsheim).
Administrators described activities as the "fourth day" of school, emphasizing student leadership, affinity clubs and competitive academic teams such as Science Olympiad, Robotics, Speech and Debate, BPA and DECA. Pete Roback, principal at Rosemount High School, noted that each high school has a process for student-led club proposals and that participation numbers in debate, speech, robotics and business/marketing competitions remain strong.
Superintendent Michael Bolsoni also introduced two hires during his recognitions segment: Joel Miltier, the district's new director of human resources, who said, "I am truly honored to be here tonight," and Donzell Dixon, named principal of Westview Elementary, who spoke briefly about priorities for the school.
