The Houston Independent School District 294 School Board approved multiple motions at its meeting, including adoption of the district's FY27 long‑term facility maintenance (LTFM) 10‑year plan, acceptance of a $780 donation to athletics, renewal of cooperative memberships and approval of principal contracts.
The board voted to accept the LTFM 10‑year plan that the district will submit to the state for review and funding. Board members discussed the district's projected annual maintainable revenue and the district's plan to use routine LTFM funds for building projects. District administrators said the board's bond will retire in 2029, which will increase available long‑term maintenance resources.
The board approved negotiated principal contracts that include a 1% adjustment in a particular pay lane for on‑site principals, a $1,500 longevity stipend after 12 years and an update to allow use of 403(b) employer contributions to make payments on eligible student loans, in line with recent legislation.
Other approvals included membership renewals for the Minnesota School Boards Association and the Southeast Service Cooperative; a contract renewal with the Southern Minnesota Education Consortium to provide physical therapy and vision services; and acceptance of a donation from the Houston Athletics Concert Club for $780 to the athletics program.
A proposal to raise substitute teacher pay was discussed and tabled pending statewide compensation survey results; the board indicated it would revisit the item when additional data are available.
The board approved a community‑donated sign for the middle/high school entrance that will match existing campus signage and accepted site‑use and lease arrangements for a softball tournament on condition the event organizers sign and follow field‑use and maintenance terms in the lessee agreement.
The board handled routine business including approval of the agenda, consent items, first readings of handbook and site plans, and quarterly board pay.
Board members directed administrators to finalize details for items approved pending conditions and to return to the board with any necessary follow‑up documentation.
