Delano Public School District’s Board of Education approved a series of routine and substantive measures during its June meeting, including acceptance of donated funds and equipment, personnel approvals, policy updates, and a community partnership project to install tennis-court lighting.
The board approved the consent agenda (motion moved by Ryan, second by Seppo; voice vote carried) and then took a roll-call vote to accept a broad list of charitable gifts and booster-club donations. District staff read a gifts resolution listing donors and amounts including (but not limited to): Community Charities of Minnesota ($500 to Delano Elementary), Basketball Booster Club ($2,243.26 for boys basketball travel expenses; $17,240.43 for girls basketball expenses and travel), Delano Tiger Activities ($8,500 to boys baseball; $1,637.82 for softball coach pay), Dance Booster Club ($10,268.90), Boys Hockey Booster ($23,202.03 for jerseys and equipment), and several other gifts and scholarships. The board approved the resolution by roll call (ayes recorded; motion carries).
The board approved the personnel report (motion and second recorded; voice vote carried) and later approved the teacher development and evaluation (TVE) manual, which had been workshopped and approved by the teachers’ association membership (motion moved, seconded; voice vote carried).
Principals’ handbooks for the elementary, intermediate and high school for 2025–26 were approved following prior review in a work session (motion moved and seconded; voice vote carried).
The board voted to limit enrollment of nonresident pupils for 2025–26 (motion moved, seconded; roll-call vote recorded as ayes) and separately approved a resolution certifying the district population estimate used for community education funding, noting a population estimate increase to 13,004.67 that will raise the district’s community-ed allocation slightly (motion moved and seconded; roll call: ayes carried).
The board approved a surplus-property list authorizing sale or disposal of assorted equipment and shop items (motion moved by Brian Schaus, seconded by Sarah Baker; voice vote carried). The meeting packet indicated minimum prices and photos will accompany sale listings.
The board approved first-and-only reads of several policy updates on scheduled review cycles, including policies on incorporated references, violence prevention, workload limits for certain special education teachers, school activities, hazing prohibition, and student vehicle/use/parking rules (motions moved and seconded; voice votes carried).
Finally, the board approved a community partnership to install lights at the district tennis courts. The board noted the project will proceed in coordination with the city council and the local tennis association and that the city council will sign the agreement; the motion carried on a voice vote.
All motions described above were approved; no opposing votes were recorded in the meeting minutes or voice-roll calls included in the transcript.
