At its Aug. 18 meeting the Carteret County Board of Commissioners approved a set of ceremonial and administrative items, including a resolution honoring a long‑time community leader and several board and authority appointments.
The board unanimously adopted a resolution of appreciation honoring Patricia Suggs for her work as executive director of the Beaufort Historical Association since 1999 and for her role in expanding the Beaufort Historic Site. The resolution recognized Suggs’ leadership of the association’s events and restoration projects and wished her a joyful retirement after 25 years of service.
The board also approved multiple appointments and reappointments:
- Paige Taylor Ward: reappointment to the Adult Home Community Advisory Committee and the Nursing Home Advisory Committee for a three‑year term. - Van Parker: appointment to the Beaufort Airport Authority for a two‑year term. - Matt Rinnell: appointment (Carteret County assistant manager) to fill the remainder of a Scenic Byway Committee seat. - Chief Paul Burnett: reappointment as a chief‑level appointment (two‑year term) related to public safety roles. - Christopher Masters and a Mr. Frank (two alternate seats) and Mr. Ricketts (regular member) to Moorehead City Board of Adjustment/ETJ seats, as recommended by the town.
All appointments were approved by voice vote during the meeting; the transcript records the board’s assent but does not record roll‑call tallies.
Separately, the board adopted the ceremonial resolution for Patricia Suggs and thanked her for decades of service to Beaufort’s historic preservation efforts.
