A county staff member presenting the item said the request would add the new names to the county’s street index and 9‑1‑1 system. The street names listed by staff during the meeting included Rumbley's Hammock Drive, Billy's Pond Drive, Thoroughfare Way, High Hills Drive, Whalebone Drive, Wainwright Drive, Wild Willow Circle, Hall's Point Drive and Berry Bay Lane.
Commissioner Chadwick recused himself from the agenda item before the public hearing and was excused for that item. The board moved into a public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Following the hearing, a motion to approve the street additions passed by voice; the meeting notes that commissioners raised their hands in favor, but the transcript does not record a roll‑call tally.
After the vote a commissioner clarified, “for the record, that was not a name change. That was a new road names, changing from nothing.” The board then moved to return Commissioner Chadwick to the meeting.
The action updates Carteret County’s official street index and 9‑1‑1 addressing for the Atlantic RV Resort area. County staff will add the names to the emergency‑address database so new addresses can be assigned and used by first responders.
