Board discussion at the June 27 special meeting focused on the assistant superintendent job description and whether it explicitly states disciplinary duties.
A board member asked Superintendent Craig Heese whether the assistant superintendent role as written included discipline responsibilities, noting that the district’s previous assistant superintendent had been involved in suspension and expulsion hearings. Heese replied that the discipline pieces “are still gonna be part of that role as well” and said the assistant superintendent typically serves on the expulsion committee and hears suspension and expulsion hearings. He also said that the district currently had an assistant superintendent title tied to human resources and that a separate assistant superintendent director of K–8 education job description did not exist; the proposed paperwork is part of “clean[ing] up some of those administrative job descriptions.”
Board members pressed for clearer language. One board member suggested adding language under the general duties specifying “including disciplinary policies” and also recommended referencing the student Code of Conduct. Heese said he would include student-discipline language and the Code of Conduct language and noted the district would continue to review administrative job descriptions and salary schedules over the summer.
The board then voted on the motion to approve the position and associated job description edits; the motion carried by roll call, 5-0. Superintendent Heese said the action would allow the district to put the position “on the books” so Mister Lynch can step into the role and that further adjustments could be brought forward at future meetings if needed.
No changes to policy or final disciplinary procedures were made at the meeting; the board directed staff to add clearer references to disciplinary responsibilities and the Code of Conduct in the job description and to return any substantive edits for future approval.
