Several community‑service departments reported program growth and steady grant support as part of the FY26 budget review.
Library: The library reported a marked increase in usage and programming. The director said visits rose 11% in nine months (from 83,000 to 94,000 visits) after adding 15 new programs and 15 new items of programming; adult program attendance rose about 44%. The library applied for a $25,000 programming grant and said it distributes seven days’ worth of summer student meals on Saturdays to accommodate working families.
Senior Services: The senior‑services director said more than 100 home‑delivered meals are served daily Monday through Friday, with about 35 congregate meals during the summer and higher counts in fall. The department said more than half its budget is grant‑funded across multiple federal and state programs (Community Care for the Elderly, Older Americans Act, CSBG and others). Staff highlighted volunteer programs that support weekend food bags for 27 home‑delivered clients and case managers who perform intake and referral to home‑health agencies.
Extension and 4‑H: Extension staff described robust summer camps, 4‑H programming and county partnerships. UF/Extension staff said they are expanding county camps and other youth programs and that donors and volunteers support many programs.
Commissioners praised staff and asked for regular summaries of major programs and capital needs so they can respond to constituent questions; staff agreed to provide concise highlights and revenue‑expense notes for public use.
