Board adopts 2024 Nebraska College and Career Ready Science Standards for OPS

The Omaha Public Schools board approved adoption of the Nebraska 2024 College and Career Ready Standards for Science.
Dr. Elizabeth Mulcahren and Anthony Moss told the board the state‑led revision cycle produced clarifying changes to indicators, the removal of duplicated high‑school‑plus indicators in anatomy and physiology, and one moved indicator in biology. Omaha Public Schools participated in the state process through teacher representatives and found the updated standards aligned with district instructional materials adopted in recent years.
District staff said the revisions required no changes to existing courses and do not require new professional development beyond regular curriculum implementation support. Upon approval, the district will update curriculum guidance documents and provide them to teachers for the 2025–26 school year.
The motion to adopt the 2024 Nebraska K–12 College and Career Ready Standards for Science passed by roll call.
