Vendor demonstrates RetroLight pedestrian-safety system to Kissimmee commissioners

Jorge Figueroa, CEO of SkyNova Solutions, presented the RetroLight smart pedestrian-safety platform to the Kissimmee City Commission as a potential tool for high-priority pedestrian zones.

Figueroa described RetroLight as a modular, in-ground LED crosswalk and signaling system that activates when pedestrians are present, uses intelligent sensors to warn approaching vehicles, collects traffic data and can be powered by solar panels. He said the product is in use internationally in six countries and more than 70 intersections and that studies he cited from the University of Rome and the EU's EIT Urban Mobility programme reported reductions in pedestrian accidents and vehicle speeds and increased pedestrian use. "The RetroLight system isn't just a concept. It is internationally recognized, being implemented in 6 countries and over 70 intersections," Figueroa said.

Figueroa added that the system uses recyclable materials and, he said, can be integrated with city management platforms and cameras. He requested an opportunity to set up a demonstration with city staff. City staff thanked him for the presentation and said they would contact him if there were questions; the commission did not schedule a demonstration or take procurement action during the meeting.

The presentation was framed by the vendor as compatible with the city's Connect Kissimmee Road project and downtown pedestrian priorities; the vendor's performance claims were presented as vendor-supplied information and were not independently verified by city staff during the session.

No formal staff or commission action was taken following the presentation; staff said they would follow up if there was interest.
