The City Commission on June 17 directed staff to include a phased US-41 parking-improvement project in the capital-improvement plan, starting with a first phase from Espanola Avenue to Northport Boulevard.
Public Works provided preliminary cost estimates. Staff said a three-phase approach would total about $2,000,005.44 (three mobilizations raise costs); completing all work in a single phase was estimated at approximately $2,000,001.11 under current pricing. Staff provided line-item phase estimates: two South-side segments at roughly $654,000 and $659,000, and a larger north-side segment at about $1.2 million. The commission voted by consensus to add phase 1 (Espanola to Northport Boulevard) to the FY26 CIP list and asked staff to return with funding options.
Commissioners noted the project would benefit businesses that generate surtax revenue and improve safety and drainage in standing trouble spots; staff said the project would likely be paid from surtax funding or other capital sources and that phase timing may affect final price.
