City selects Arbor Pro to inventory roughly 18,500 street and park trees under DCNR grant

The Planning Department said it selected Arbor Pro, a California-based firm, to perform a tree inventory under an ongoing Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) grant.
A Planning Department staff member said the firm will survey about 18,500 trees along streets, in parks and in boulevards across the city. "Based on the funding they'll be coming to survey about 18,500 trees," the staff member said. Staff estimated the city contains roughly 25,000 trees, meaning the inventory will cover a significant portion of municipal trees.
The staff member said the work was just awarded and that Arbor Pro should begin work soon; staff estimated the inventory will be completed by the end of the year. Commissioners asked how long the survey would take and staff replied it was expected to be complete by year-end.
No vote was taken; staff presented the inventory selection as a procurement decision under the DCNR grant.
