Public Works reported that American Pavement Systems is scheduled to begin a slurry-seal project in the northeast area near Duck Blind Circle on Aug. 11 and has until Sept. 22 to complete the work; staff said resident notifications and coordination with street sweeping and trash pickup will occur.
Parks and recreation staff reminded the council of community events: movie night (corrected in the meeting to Aug. 16) with activities starting in the late afternoon at Sherman Park and an increase in youth soccer practices at Sherman Park in August and September. Lieutenant Short of the police department announced National Night Out will be Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. at Sherman Park.
Fire Chief Bowen said the department will conduct a training burn on the coming Saturday (a short training with expected smoke), will attend back-to-school night on Aug. 2 and continues mandated fire life-safety inspections of residential apartments. The chief also noted recent community cleanup participation.
