Newman Mayor Casey Graham on July 27 proclaimed Aug. 3–9, 2025, as National Health Center Week and recognized Golden Valley Health Center for its service to the Central Valley.
The proclamation cited the role of community health centers in providing primary and preventive care to medically underserved communities and noted the national scope of the community health center network. Mayor Casey Graham said the City of Newman honors the centers’ mission and officially proclaimed the week on behalf of the Newman City Council.
At the ceremony, Alus Abayos, government and community affairs manager for Golden Valley Health Centers, told the council the organization has served Newman for three decades. "We've been in the Newman community for 31 years," Abayos said, and described a 2004 community fundraising campaign that raised $1,600,000, including more than $500,000 from local residents and businesses, to build the clinic that opened in February 2007.
The council also noted Golden Valley Health Center’s longstanding local presence in its proclamation language, which recognizes community health centers for offering a range of services beyond primary care, including behavioral health and dentistry.
The recognition does not create any new city obligations; it is a ceremonial proclamation and an acknowledgement of Golden Valley Health Centers’ contributions to local health services.
