Committee approves recreation center fee increases and Porter Sanford rate change

The committee considered agenda item 2025-0876, a two-part update to Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs (RPCA) fees and deposits. Director Ellis and RPCA staff presented options for summer-camp and after-school fees, including proposed reductions or maintained rates for participants who qualify for free-and-reduced-price (FAR) lunch.
Staff presented three fee scenarios; the committee voted to approve Proposed Fee Option 2 for the recreation-centers/programs section, which included a phased increase and a $5 discount for additional children in a family while retaining the qualified discount for FAR lunch participants at current levels.
Separately, the committee considered proposed fee updates for the Porter Sanford Performing Arts and Community Center and related facilities. Staff said fees there had not been adjusted since 2008, and the study compared the center to similar venues. The committee approved the Porter Sanford proposed fee schedule with an implementation start date of Jan. 1 (substitute to be filed reflecting the effective date). Commissioners and staff said additional revenues would be reinvested in operations and needed repairs.
Votes were taken by voice; the committee forwarded both recommendations to the full board.
