Commissioners appoint delegates to NCACC and coastal fisheries coalition

The board selected Commissioner Royce Bennett as Onslow County’s voting delegate to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) annual business session. The board then appointed Commissioner Tony Padgett to represent Onslow County on the newly formed North Carolina Coastal Counties Fisheries Coalition; Padgett’s first meeting with the coalition is scheduled for Aug. 5.
Commissioners described Commissioner Padgett’s background and long-standing ties to the coastal fishing community as qualifications for the fisheries coalition role. Both motions were approved without recorded opposition. The appointments are administrative actions; staff did not note any budget or contractual obligations associated with the designations at the meeting.
The appointments were taken during the meeting’s regular business items after the public hearings concluded.
