Presenters for the Kuntz Stadium leaseholders updated the Board of Parks and Recreation on operations, investments and recent events at the stadium.
Bill Ehret, a stadium committee member and operator, and Gideon Scott Miller, Riverside regional manager (Indy Parks) and stadium staff contact, told the board the operators took possession of the facility under a 2024 lease and invested in press boxes, scoreboards, locker-room upgrades (including HVAC and shower improvements), officials’ and training rooms and upgrades to restroom and concession buildings. Ehret said private investment in the facility exceeds $1.5 million.
The stadium hosted the Collegiate Rugby Association of America national championships in May and the USA Senior Club National Championship; Ehret said Cal Berkeley (University of California Berkeley) and other out-of-state teams played at the stadium, providing national exposure for Indianapolis. The stadium also hosted the Indianapolis Alley Cats ultimate Frisbee team, the Central Indiana Women’s Soccer League on weeknights, the International Soccer League on weekends and other events, and operators said they were contracted to host an upcoming USA women’s sevens camp that will bring athletes to train at the site.
Operators identified partners who assist with food service and operations and security, including a contracted food-service operator and a security/janitorial provider. Board members asked about outreach to adjacent schools and amateur clubs; presenters said they have had some turnover among school administrators but are working to re-establish contacts and that amateur men’s and women’s rugby clubs have used the field in past seasons and would be welcome to use the facility going forward.
Board members described the update as evidence the lease and investment strategy are producing activity, and the chair thanked presenters and staff for the work to attract national events to the facility.
