Council accepts Sign Control Board minutes and case for Saint Paul Catholic Classical School

The Richardson City Council unanimously accepted Sign Control Board minutes from July 9 and thereby affirmed the board's approval of a sign-variance package for Saint Paul Catholic Classical School.

Charles (staff) presented the case and explained that the school sits on an approximately 11-acre site in the West Spring Valley Planned Development District and the applicant requested variances from two parts of the sign code: the limit of one attached sign for religious institutions in residential districts (40 square feet maximum) and the 8-square-foot maximum for traffic/directional signs. The proposal included a second attached sign (about 190 square feet) near the school entrance and several larger directional signs (about 23 square feet each) intended to help visitors navigate the campus; certain pedestrian-oriented directional signs remain under allowable area limits.

The Sign Control Board reviewed the application at its July 9 meeting and voted 5-0 to recommend approval. At the council meeting Mayor Pro Tem Hutchenrider moved to accept the Sign Control Board minutes and recommendation; Council Member Dorian seconded. The council vote to accept the minutes and the board's decision was unanimous (6-0) with Council Member Barrios absent.
