Leonard said he had requested additional vendor quotes for Amazon Web Services but had not received them yet.
Councilmember Sherman asked staff to request and review proposals from major cloud providers. A motion to deny the hardware purchase and require evaluation of no fewer than three cloud providers was moved but failed. A subsequent motion to approve the agenda item as presented passed 5–1.
Council discussion noted timing sensitivity: staff said the Dell reseller’s quote would likely be valid only through the end of the month. Councilmember Sherman said she supported future proofing with cloud evaluations prior to large purchases; several councilmembers agreed staff should present cloud alternatives for major infrastructure decisions going forward.
