Planning staff said the applicant originally requested a carport exceeding the 500‑square‑foot maximum and therefore sought board relief; the plan presented at the hearing measured 22 by 34 feet in staff materials but the applicant clarified the buildable design is 22 by 28 feet (616 square feet). Staff reported the proposed carport meets the other Article 6 requirements and identified nearby legally permitted carports in the neighborhood. Forty‑six notices were mailed; no responses in favor or opposed were returned, and staff did not object.
Applicant Florentino Barrientos explained the carport would provide shade and protection for family vehicles in Grand Prairie's heat. Board member David Baker moved to close and approve the application as amended to 616 square feet; the motion carried 9–0.
The owner should proceed with the amended plan and comply with permitting and inspection requirements.
